شِىٌّ

is originally شِوْىٌ. (ISd, TA.) One says, جَاءَ بِالعِىِّ وَالشِّىِّ, (S, K,) using the latter noun as an imitative sequent to the former [for the purpose of corroboration: see article عى]. (TA.)
