مَعْسِمٌ

A thing that is, or that is to be, coveted; synonym مَطْمَعٌ; (S, TA;) as also عَسَمٌ; or this latter signifies coveting, or covetousness; and عَشَمٌ, with ش, is a dialect var. of it. (TA in this article and in article عشم.) So the former signifies in the saying مَا لَكَ فِى بَنِى فُلَانٍ مَعْسِمٌ [There is not for thee, in the sons of such a one, anything that is, or is to be, coveted]. (S.) [Freytag has written this word مَعْسَم, as from the K, in which I do not find it; and has explained it as signifying desire.]
