تِجْفَافٌ

A thing, (S, Mgh, Msb,) i. e. a kind of armour, (IAth, K,) [a cataphract,] with which a horse is clad, (S, IAth, Mgh, Msb, K,) in war, in the manner of a coat of mail, (Mgh, Msb,) to defend him from being wounded; (IAth;) and sometimes worn by a man, to defend him in war: (K:) of the measure تِفْعَالٌ, (Mgh, Msb,) the ت being augmentative, (Aboo-'Alee the Grammarian, S, IJ,) to render the word quasi-coordinate to the class of قِرْطَاسٌ; (IJ;) from جَفَّ, because of its hardness and toughness: (Mgh, Msb:) plural تَجَافِيفُ (S, Mgh, Msb.) It is said in a tradition, أَعِدَّ لِلْفَقْرِ تِجْفَافًا; and one says, اِلْبَسْ لِلْفَقْرِ تِجْفَافًا; [both] meaning, Make thou preparation for poverty. (TA.)
