تَمَثَّلَ بِكَذَا

[He affected to be like, or imitated, such a thing;] i. q.
تَشَبَّهَ بِهِ. (TA, article شبه.)

تَمَثَّلَ البَيْتَ and [more commonly] بِالبَيْتِ
He used, or applied, the verse as a proverb, or proverbially. (MA.)
