And فَأَيْتُ القَدَحَI split, or clave, or cracked, the bowl. (M.) And فَأَوْتُهُ بِالعَصَاI smote, or struck, him with the staff, or stick. (IAar, M.) فَأْوٌ and فَأْىٌ both signify The act of smiting, or striking: and the act of splitting, or cleaving. (K.)
