جَمٌّ

, a verbal noun used as an epithet, (Msb,) Much, or many; (S, Msb, K;) as also
جَمِيمٌ according to the copies of the K, but correctly
جَمَمَ, as in the L. (TA.) You say مَالٌ جَمٌّ (Msb, TA) and
جَمَمَ (TA) Muck property, or many cattle. (Msb.) And it is said in the Qur'an, 89:21, وَ يُحِبُّونَ المَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا (S) And they love property with much love. (A'Obeyd, TA.) Aboo-Khirásh El-Hudhalee says,
(TA) i. c. [If thou forgive, O God, Thou forgivest] much sin. (Mgh.) جَمّٰ البُعَاقِ, in a tradition respecting prayer for rain, means Copious, abundant, extensive rain. (TA in article بعق.)إِنْ تَغْفِرِ الّٰلهُمَ تَغْفِرْ جَمَّا

The greater, or main, portion of the ظَهِيرَة [i. e. midday, or mid-day in summer, &c.]: and of water; as also
جَمَّةٌ, (as in some copies of the K,) or
جُمَّةٌ: (so in other copies of the K, and according to the TA: [the former apparently the right: if it were the latter, the author of the K, according to a rule which he has seldom neglected, would have added بِالضَّمِّ; as SM has here done, unless his transcriber have thus written by mistake for بِالفَتْحِ:] or جَمٌّ signifies the water, of a well, that has collected [after it has been drawn from]: and
جَمَّةٌ, the place in which the water collects: (S:) and also, this last, the water itself: (TA: [i. e. the supply of water that has collected after drawing: see 4, last sentence but one; and see 10, last sentence:]) the plural (of جَمَّةٌ S [or of this and of جَمٌّ also]) is جِمَامٌ (S, K) and جُمُومٌ. (K.)
