لِوَاءٌ

A banner, or standard, synonym عَلَمٌ, (M, Mgh, K,) of a commander, (T,) or of an army, less than the رَايَة, being a strip of cloth, twisted, or wound, and tied to a spear-shaft. (Mgh.) See رِفَادَةٌ. Respecting the لِوَاء of the Kaabeh, see سَدَنَ and فَادَةٌ.
