أُمِّيَّةٌ

The quality denoted by the epithet أُمِّىٌّ: (TA:) [gentilism: (assumed tropical:) heathenism: &c.:] (assumed tropical:) the quality of being [in the natural condition of the nation to which one belongs, or] as brought forth by one's mother, in respect of not having learned the art of writing nor the reading thereof.
