وَاطَأَهُ عَلَى أَمْرٍ

, (AZ, S, K,) verbal noun مُوَاطَأَةٌ (S) and وِطَاءٌ; (TA;) and تواطأهُ and توطّأهُ; (K;) (tropical:) He agreed, or concurred, with him respecting a thing. (S, K.) The radical signification of واطأ is said to be He trod in the footsteps of another: and the signification of agreement is therefore figurative. (MF.)

فُلَانٌ يُوَاطِيءُ اسْمُهُ اسْمِى (tropical:) [Such a one's name agrees, or is the same, with mine]. (S.)

لِيُوَاطِيءُوا عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ اللّٰه (tropical:) [That they may agree in the number of (the mouths) which God hath made sacred: Qur'an, 9:37. (S.)

أَشَدُّ وِطَاءٌ, as some read, [in the Qur'an, 73:6,] signifies (tropical:) More, or most, suitable; (S;) [i. e., prayer, and the recitation of the Qur'an]: but some read وَطْأً, in the sense of قِيَامًا: see نَاشِيءَةٌ. (S, L.) See 4.
