[عاودهُ الكَلَامَ, or عاودهُ alone, or each of these phrases, the latter being probably used for the former, like as رَاجَعَهُ is used for رَاجَعَهُ الكَلَامَ, apparently signifies primarily He returned time after time to talking with him: and hence, he talked with him alternately; (compare a signification assigned to 6;) he returned him answer for answer, or answers for answers; held a dialogue, or colloquy, or conference, or a disputation, or debate, with him; bandied words with him: for it is said that] رَاجَعَهُ الكَلَامَ is synonym with عَاوَدَهُ [apparently meaning عاودهُ الكَلَامَ]; (S * and K in article رجع;) [and that] رَاجَعْتُهُ is synonym with عَاوَدْتُهُ.
