تُقَاةٌ

In the phrase in the Qur'an, 3:27, إِلَّا أَنْ تَتَّقُوا مِنْهُمْ تُقَاةً, it may be a verbal noun [so that the meaning may be Unless ye fear from them with a great fearing (see 1)]: or it may be a plural [apparently of تَقِىٌّ, like as كُمَاةٌ is plural of كَمِىٌّ, so that the meaning may be unless ye fear from them, being fearful]: but it is better to regard it as a verbal noun because another reading is تَقِيَّةً.
