ضبّ, a kind of lizard, which is supposed to live seven hundred years,] is from الحَيَاةُ. (TA.)

In the sayings أَحْيَى مِنْ هَدِىٍّ [More shy, or bashful, than the bride] and أَحْيَى مِنْ
مُخَدَّرَةٍ [More shy, or bashful, than a girl kept behind the curtain] it is from الحَيَاءُ. (TA.)
